“Insidious 5: The Red Door” is an American supernatural horror film directed by Patrick Wilson and based on the story by Leigh Whannell, with a screenplay by Scott Teems. It serves as a direct sequel to “Insidious” (2010) and “Insidious: Chapter 2” (2013), and is the fifth installment in the Insidious franchise. Ty Simpkins, Wilson, Andrew Astor, Rose Byrne, and Lin Shaye reprise their roles from the previous films. Hiam Abbass and Sinclair Daniel also join the cast.

The film takes place ten years after the events of the second movie. Josh Lambert travels east to drop off his son, Dalton, at a prestigious university. However, Dalton’s dreams of college life turn into a nightmare when the suppressed demons from his past suddenly start haunting them. To put an end to the curse once and for all, Josh and Dalton are forced to revisit The Further once again.

In Up, Carl fulfilled Ellie’s dream by attaching thousands of balloons to his house and flying to South America. In Carl’s Date, Carl embarks on a new adventure, inspired by a note left by Ellie: “You never know what life will bring, so don’t be afraid to try new things.”

Carl’s Date will be released in theaters on June 16, 2023, alongside Pixar’s feature film titled Elemental. Ed Asner (in one of his final roles) voices Carl Fredricksen, and Bob Peterson voices Dug. The film was initially developed as the sixth and final episode of the series Dug Days, intended for release on Disney Plus, but it was later turned into a separate short film for the cinema.

Like Pixar’s best works, the film combines an emotionally driven story inspired by real-life with humorous scenes. It showcases how Carl prepares for the date, receives advice from Dug, and depicts the course of the date, offering both laughter and heartfelt moments for the audience.
