Ayo Edebiri is an American comedian, writer, producer and actress who was born in Boston in 1995 and grew up in a Pentecostal family. She appeared on Comedy Central’s Up Next and co-hosts the podcast Iconography with Olivia Craighead. Edebiri joined the cast of Big Mouth’s fourth season and starred in the series The Bear. Edebiri became interested in comedy through eighth grade drama class and joined the improv club at Boston Latin School. She studied to be a teacher at New York University and interned with Upright Citizens Brigade in her junior year.

Edebiri has worked on various projects in television and cinema. She performed a stand-up set on Comedy Central’s Up Next, co-wrote and co-starred in the digital series Ayo and Rachel Are Single with her friend and fellow comedian Rachel Sennott. She was a television writer for The Rundown with Robin Thede and NBC’s Sunnyside. She joined the writing staff of Big Mouth for the show’s fourth season and was selected to voice Missy after Jenny Slate stepped down. She was a writer and actress on Apple TV+‘s second season of Dickinson. She played a supporting role in the 2022 film adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith’s YA novel Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between. In 2022, she gained wider recognition as Sydney Adamu, an ambitious young sous chef, on FX on Hulu’s comedy series The Bear. She won an Independent Spirit Award and was nominated for Gotham Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards for her role. Edebiri co-produced and appeared on Mulligan, an animated series for Netflix, and voiced Ham, the lead role in the interactive special We Lost Our Human, also for Netflix. On January 26, 2023, she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2024 film Thunderbolts in an undisclosed role. She will voice April O’Neil in the upcoming animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which will be released in the US on August 2, 2023.
