John Cena was born on April 23, 1977, in West Newbury, Massachusetts. His full name is John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. He has four brothers: Dan, Matt, Steve, and Sean. His father, John Cena Sr., is an announcer for independent wrestling promotions in Massachusetts. His mother, Carol Cena, is of French-Canadian descent. His grandfather, Tony Lupien, was a professional baseball player for the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cena graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 1998 with a degree in exercise physiology. He moved to California to pursue a career as a bodybuilder and later took wrestling classes. Cena released his rap album You Can’t See Me in 2005 with his cousin Tha Trademarc. The album featured his entrance theme song “The Time Is Now” as well as other tracks such as “Bad Bad Man”, “Right Now”, “If It All Ended Tomorrow”, and “Basic Thuganomics”. The album reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
